Product Description:
Lee Morgan, born in Philadelphia in 1938, was a remarkable trumpeter and jazz musician whose career spanned from the mid-1950s to the early 1970s. Initially drawn to the vibraphone, Morgan later embraced the trumpet and was greatly influenced by the legendary Clifford Brown, who gave him valuable lessons before his tragic death in a car accident.
Morgan's journey as a bandleader began in 1956 when he recorded for the Blue Note label, eventually amassing 25 albums with the company. He joined Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in 1958, honing his skills as a soloist and composer. Sadly, Morgan's life was cut short in a tragic incident on February 19, 1972, when he was shot by his girlfriend during an argument between sets at Slug's, a renowned New York City jazz club. He was only 33 years old.
This vinyl release presents the complete 1960 LP "Here's Lee Morgan," featuring Morgan in a quintet alongside luminaries like Clifford Jordan, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, and Art Blakey, who served as Morgan's bandleader at the time. It's a testament to Morgan's enduring talent and contribution to the world of jazz.
